CamSIS rant!

yrieithyddI'll leave aside for now the rant about the stupidity of having 3 entries for names (initials, where first name is set to my initials; preferred, where both First and Middle are set to my Middle name; and primary which is actually my name) and the fact that their FAQ says:
7. Why is my Preferred Name not being displayed in CamSIS?
Only certain areas of CamSIS will use a student's preferred name, such as the areas dealing with addressing letters or sending emails. Most parts of CamSIS, including the Examination and Grading processes, only use primary names - the student's official First, Middle and Last names.
but my name on other pages comes out as first name surname omitting my middle name. I'll also forget about the fact college told me to add my DIGS address and then we found that I couldn't! I'll even leave aside the weird interface which appears if you click on the links at the top of pages which look like they'll take you back where you came from. But I will rant about fact that I've completely failed to work about which term they want me to select in the application for leave to defer submission. The instructions don't say; they tell you to look at http://www.admin.cam.ac.uk/offices/gradstud/current/ for detailed information. Clicking on two more links gets me to the relevant page but all this says about the applicaion process is that it occurs via CamSIS (to which there is a link). Returning (clicking on which took me to a Raven authentication thing even though I was already logged into CamSIS in another tab) to the instructions box, one continues reading and finds that there is an out of date version of the relevant webpage. I know it's out of date because it says that you can down load a pdf of the relevant form and that's the system that has gone out. Clicking on help has no effect. The impression I get from the HelpDesk is that it is only for bug reports and thus I shouldn't bother them (well that's what Students are reminded that the CamSIS Helpdesk is NOT in a position to offer direct support for the use of CamSIS Self-Service and, says to me). I've found a couple of training guides but the Graduate Tracker doesn't contain the phrase 'leave to defer' and while the Graduate Student Record does contain the phrase leave to defer the interface described is not the one I see so I presume it is for academics authorising such leave not students applying. I can't even work out to whom I should go with these queries. I've just emailed the person in the Faculty who sends us emails about stuff because she'd just replied to queries I'd had about an email she'd just (re-)sent about 10th term funding!
Now, I'm generally reasonably competent with working out how to make computers do what I want but this has defeated me and sleeping on it hasn't helped!
