[livejournal.com profile] mair_aw has just posted about supporting Sustrans UK's bid in the People's Million. I tried as one of the projects if very close to my work and being able to go over to Penarth would be fun, but the stupid website won't let me register because it tells me that the security code is wrong. I can't work this at all. I wonder whether it doesn't like Firefox.
There I was lying on my bed spodding, when I heard voices down the side of the house. This struck me as odd, but I was not suitably attired for accosting people outside so did nothing. A few minutes later there were more voices and then a knock at my back door. I shouted `What?' and got the response `it's the police'. I put some clothes on and opened the blind to see that it was a policeman and opened the door. I was then asked whether it was my bike down the side of the house. I looked puzzled and thought `it shouldn't be'. But went outside (in my stocking feet) and round to the back to look at where my bikes should be and neither were there. I then went down the side of the house and mum's bike was there. This was a relief as this is the one I'm actually using. I went and got my sandals on and moved it back to the back of the house, but then decided that this was foolish and I'd move it to under the stairs. I hung around outside. I was shown one bike with suspension which wasn't mine. But about quarter of an hour later they brought out a bike from the back garden a couple of doors down and it was my tatty old bike (with its decent lights), so I parked that inside too. Police had arrested someone.

There'd been two calls about an hour apart about burglaries in the street but different descriptions. I think both were arrested. Two police vans in the street.

I was rather disappointed to arrive at the Cathedral tonight to be told that as the boys were all ill, it was just a said Eucharist in St Dyfrig, rather than the advertised Solemn Eucharist. It didn't help that Friday is a night the boys do evensong on their own, but I feel that we as a congregation should have been able to cope with 3 hymns and Merbecke. Or they could have scraped a choir together out of the lay clerks, parish choir and Merbecke choir. It seemed a shame to lose all the ritual as well as the music. Admittedly, the fact that they have it at 6pm doesn't help. It's not the easiest time to make when one works.*

*Though pumping up one's tyres, putting the saddle up a bit and coming a shorter route help! It took me 26 mins tonight compared to 40 last Thursday! I got to work in 20 mins not 30 this morning and it's a lot less depressing going fast. I must put my cycle computer** on tomorrow so I can know how fast I'm going.

**I got this because dad lost the receipt for the mudguards they gave me for Christmas which would fit the design of my bike. They had no other mudguards that would. So I had to chose something else. We then took the bike to the cycleshop we had tried to go to anyway but it was shut on the Saturday before Christmas when we tried and they gave it service and fitted the mudguard. It needed the service because when we cleaned years of grime off the frame dad noticed the rear gear cable was frayed.
