How silly: Charity calls for parents who give drinks to their children (under 15) to be prosecuted.

Yes, there is a problem with kids drinking too much. However, I suspect very little of that drinking goes on in the home under parental supervision. Parents who drink sensibly themselves and allow their children to drink a bit of wine with a meal are more likely to encourage their kids to drink sensibly. If you're allowed to drink at home, then it does not have the rebellion factor! Indeed, one friend of mine says that her parents educated her palette to the extent that she wasn't interested in drinking the cheap booze that her friends were using to get drunk.

The Scots are more sensible. Alchohol Focus Scotland say:
But Alcohol Focus Scotland fears that putting alcohol completely out of bounds could make it more tempting.

The charity favours the continental approach of educating children's palates responsibly.

Quite! Did you hear John Humphries tearing the person from the ridiculous charity to pieces on Today this morning? And they had a report from the home of a 12 year old girl who is clearly on the road to perdition as her parents allow her to have a sherry glass of wine with a meal occasionally. I mean, how irresponsible! She's never going to get any appreciation of the nose...

No, I was being asleep!

How's life with you anyway? I was thinking the other day you'd not posted for a while. Hope you had a good name day on Wednesday.

Life is ok with me. I'm currently sitting in Birmingham New St waiting for a train to Aber, where I'm spending a long weekend before going to MCSC on Tuesday. It's been a quiet-ish couple of weeks since the 16th (which was essay deadline) because I've been doing no academic work and I blocked this Sunday and last on the preaching plan to give myself a bit of space before panel. At some point, I might even write something in my journal!

Wednesday was fun - [livejournal.com profile] claroscuro was up and we had beer and dinner and went to High Mass Sung Eucharist in the Cathedral, which was only marred by one of those nasty modern chasuble with stole outside things.

Enjoy Aber, take a walk in the bluebell woods for me.

Why do people wear their stoles on the outside? Are they trying to be superpriest or something?

I did walk in the bluebell woods, which were very definitely living up to their name.

I agree. Alcohol as a youth put M off it for life...

Oh dear. Prohibition in the USA worked so well...
