36 pages of my thesis/dissertation* have colour graphs on it. I asked the faculty computer bod about colour printing and she suggested the Oriental studies basement at a £1 a sheet. This would be expensive. I checked the Computer service printing pages which tells me I can get 25p a side in the Phoenix User Area.** This is better, but will still cost me £18 for the initial softbound copies and a further £9 for the hardbound copy. Does anyone have any other suggestions? Annoyingly dad has a colour printer, but I want to be in Cambridge before I'm at the colour printing stage. Emailing him the copies and getting them sent might be cheaper but rather complicated and risky on the postal service!

*Paul reckons t'other place uses thesis for DPhils but Cambridge uses disseration. This seems to be borne out my the English Faculty Blue Book for PhD students (PDF) but has anyone else noticed it?

**Question for [livejournal.com profile] caliston, Am I right in thinking that was where we took Martin on Saturday?

do you mind if they're done on an inkjet rather than a laser? if not, you could send the relevant pages to me and i could print them out. i'll probably be back in cambridge late saturday.

Are you around at the end of the month? Printing for the final versions will occur around the 28th August? Before then, I can live with B&W graphs though they're hard to read.

Inkjet is certainly an option, though might look a bit odd if black and white pages are lasered.

my thesis had b/w lasered and colour inkjetted.

barring (possibly impending) doom, i should be in cambridge around the 28th august and for a few days after. if doom does impend i should imagine that [livejournal.com profile] jy100 would be willing to print the pages for you anyway.

The recommendations I followed suggested having

"Dissertation submitted to the University of Cambridge [Department/Faculty] for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy"

on the title page, so I guess we do call them dissertations and not theses.

I'd just noticed that form of words in the bluebook. I did a search for both terms in that and found two examples of thesis and over 60 of disseration. One of the examples of thesis referred to the `thesis of the disseration'!
