Having just seen this in
leanato's journal I was intrigued.
I tried to be strict in my definition of visited. A number of the counties not marked I've been through (for example Rutland, Hertfordshire and Gwent, the former being on the old train route home and the latter two on the new one, or the bits of Scotland required to get to the bits I've visited!) and in the case of Wiltshire I stood on a platform at Swindon for 5 or 10 mins last Sunday evening (it was cold) but I don't think that counts. It is also based on events I can think of (Devon was initially included on the basis that I've memories from a holiday I think happened then but then I realised the Plymouth is there and we did Plymouth-Santander when we went to Spain).
Gwent is the only Welsh county not included; I don't like Scotland much at all, but I've only been there once on holiday when I was 13 and we did Edinburgh and Glen Coe with a stop in Oban on the way back; I've done a lot of England too, but not the bit in the middle of the South it seems and I must visit Suffolk as it isn't exactly a million miles from here, and the omission of Cornwall is poor for a Celticist!
I've visited the counties in yellow. Which counties have you visited? made by marnanel map reproduced from Ordnance Survey map data by permission of the Ordnance Survey. © Crown copyright 2001. |
