Between getting in from church/work and Call the Midwife* I watched a bit of of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2.

I finally actually paid attention to how the Ravenclaw Diadem Horcrux was destroyed. In the book, Harry hadn't retrieved it from on top of the statuette when Goyle set off the fire. Afterwards, they find it and it has been destroyed. Hermione realises that the spell Goyle must have used was FiendFyre destroys Horcruxes (and anything else) which is why she had not risked using it. In the film, Harry had found the Diadem before the fire and once they get out (having rescued Malfoy and Crabb)** Harry stabs it with the Basilik tooth Ron and Hermione had retrieved.

Now, explaining Fiendfyre would have been a bit complicated (but it's not much dialogue in the book), so what they did is arguably simpler, but it spoils a larger thing. It's not a thing I've seen discussed but I feel the fact that in the books the horcruxes are all destroyed by different people is important. Harry does't do this alone. Voldermort is a loner who doesn't trust others and even Dumbledore keeps secrets. Harry is part of a team.

Harry destroys the first Horcrux (Riddle's Diary) in the Chamber of Secrets, with the Basilik tooth without knowing that that is what he was doing.

Dumbledore then tracks down and destroys the Peverell Ring (from Riddle's uncle Gaunt), probably with the sword of Griffindor (which took on the basilik venom).

Dumbledore takes Harry to find the Slytherin Locket, except it's not there. Regulus Black had removed it years before and it got cleared out of the Order of Phoenix HQ without being recognised. Mung takes it sell and Umbridge takes it as a bribe. Once Ron, Harry and Hermione reclaim it from her, they can't destroy it until Snape sends them the Sword of Griffindor. Harry gets Ron to do the actual destruction.

Harry, Ron, Herminone persuade Griphook to get them into Gringotts to get the Hufflepuff cup, but Griphook keeps the Sword, so they don't have that to use. But Ron realises that there are Basilisk teeth in the CHamber of Secrets so he and Hermione find their way back there and Hermione destroys it.

Meanwhile, Luna helps Harry by taking him to the Ghost of Helena Ravenclaw which leads him to the Room of Requirement. FiendFyre (set off by Goyle) destroys it.

Harry realises the danger of too few people knowing things and tells Neville (and Luna?) about the importance of killing Nagini (the final horcrux) and Neville kills her (again with the Sword of Griffindor).

The Horcrux in Harry is in fact killed by Voldemort himself.

It's a small thing, but having Harry stab the Diadem spoils this.

*I'm still not sure what I make of 4pm Evensong without sermon, but the ability to be home over an hour before Call the Midwife (despite a trip to a shop and talking to the curate at the bus stop) starts rather than a few minutes after if I'm lucky is great.

**Interesting I refer to them by their surnames but members of other houses by Given name.
